INUKSUK

The Inuksuk

Inukshuks
(inn-ook-shooks)

Inukshuks are one of the salient features of the North and they give to their place an air of serenity. At times of mystery as if all that had transpired in the past were embodied in their silent forms. Their functions were numerous and the reason of their being wherever they are was specific. The hands of many and the effort of an entire group were required to build these massive stone sculptures. They are the result of a consensus of purpose of focused action by a group united in its goal and labour. The Inukshuks are the product of co-operation, teaching us that as good as our individual efforts may be, together we can do even greater things. Each stone is a separate entity. Each supports, and is supported by, the one above and the one below it. No one piece is any more or less important than the other. Its strength lies in its unity. Its significance comes from its meaning of whole. Each individual entity alone has significance as ourselves and as a team each of us supports, and is supported by, another. The Inukshuk is a symbol of the human spirit. It recognizes our ability to succeed as partners in advocacy with others, where we would fail alone. It reminds us of our need to belong to something greater than ourselves. The difference we make today counts in all our tomorrows.

Their age is probably the ago of man in the Artic, for the Eskimos say they were there before they came. They also say that it was the Tunrit, the people who prepared the land, that built the cairns and the fish weirs and who, by the aid of Inukshuks served many purposed. For centuries, massive stone figures built in the image of humans have stood silhouetted on treeless Arctic horizons used to communicate direction in harsh, forbidding north and identify one particular place from another. As such, they became a tool of survival. They continue to represent the unselfish act of a nomadic people . the Inuit . who built these signposts to make the way easier and safer for those who followed, and to give bearings to a traveler coming in from the frozen sea to a flat featureless coast. In more recent times, explorers to mark their farther penetration of the North built Inukshuks, or to mark the places where their records lay buried.

A faint air of mystery prevails throughout the Arctic and nowhere more strongly than among its pillars and mounted stones. In a land that has remained little changed though the millenniums that man has lived in it this is perhaps not surprising. They survived as a testimony to all that remains of the generations of struggle for life that took place around them.

Today, the Inukshuk is a tangible symbol of the partnership of communication . a universal means of speaking about our concerns, and our dependence on one another as partners. Because of its history and story, the Inukshuk is an effective vehicle to acknowledge and convey enlightened management utilizing partners in advocacy and partners in communication, the importance of personal contribution, responsible environmental leadership, and an invitation to speak with fellow team members on a higher level about .what really matters.. Everyone needs to know they are making a difference... in their jobs, to their team members. to whatever tasks they devote their time, energy, and enthusiasm. The Inukshuk acts as a reminder to all of us our efforts are appreciated. and the difference we make today, does count in all our tomorrows.

At Champion, the Inukshuk constantly reminds us that all of our partners; sellers, joint venture and equity investors, lenders, tenants, condominium buyers, land developers, communities, brokers, contractors and consultants.
